The environment

We take our responsibilities for the local environment very seriously.

We are a keen supporter of the Countryside Stewardship Scheme.

We also back the neighboring Ashleworth Ham Wetland Scheme run by the Gloucestershire Wildlife Trust.

About Chamberlayne Farms

Farming today

Today Chamberlayne Farms concentrates on three main areas of farming:

Crop production

On the banks of the River Severn between Gloucester and Ashleworth, over 1,200 acres of land are farmed for the production of:

  • Wheat
  • Barley
  • Oil seed rape
  • Beans
  • Linseed

Rearing pigs

At Ashleworth Court, around 1,200 Landrace cross Duroc pigs are raised for sale into the food chain. The majority of the meat is used for bacon production.

Vermiculture

With an increasing focus on the environmental disposal of green waste, Chamberlayne Farms has begun a trial into the rearing of Denorobaena worms to help compost this waste.

Occupying purpose built beds at Persh Farm near Maisemore, it is envisaged that over Denorobaena worms will be raised in one year. These worms will then go on to be used by the waste industry for vermicomposting.
